The Adventures of Tom Sawyer (1876) celebrates boyhood in a town on the Mississippi river. It is a story about a schoolboy named Tom Sawyer who loves the idea of having a life full of adventure. He often plays pranks on his friends and relatives in order to derive fun, which he thinks to be an essential spice of life. He has a couple of trustworthy friends, for instance, Huck and Joe, who entertain in their minds the same notion (as Tom does) that life is a total waste without thrill and excitement. This novel extensively details the adventures Tom and his friends have together.
